Maker Studio: Crumble - Let There Be Light!
Let there be light! From guiding ships safely into harbour to communicating messages using Morse code, lights play an important role in Royal Navy operations. But how do you make them work? It’s time to get hands-on and find out!
Join us at Maker Studio to explore the world of electrical engineering and coding. Using simple circuits, crocodile leads and Crumble microcontrollers, you’ll discover how to connect components and programme LED lights using a tablet computer. Follow pictorial instructions and coding cards to get started, then experiment with different lights to see what you can create.
Can you programme a pattern inspired by the lights on a Royal Navy ship or aircraft? Could you use LEDs to send a message in Morse code, recreate a set of alphabet flags or design your own colourful display? With individual LEDs, light batons and LED grids to experiment with, there are plenty of ways to put your ideas to the test.
Test your circuits, troubleshoot problems and adapt your code as you develop your design. Whether you’re a budding coder, an aspiring electrical engineer or simply love making things work, come along, get creative and discover how engineering helps the Royal Navy communicate and operate.
