Home Educators Programme: Mission Restore Communications
What happens when a disaster strikes and vital communications are lost? Join fellow home educators as part of a Royal Marines Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) task group and take on a mission to restore communications between an isolated disaster zone and a relief coordination centre.
Inspired by the real-world work of the Royal Marines, this hands-on STEM challenge puts you at the heart of a developing emergency. Working together, you will investigate how information can be transmitted over distance and design and build a communications network capable of sending vital messages. Along the way, you will explore electronics, telecommunications, radio waves, circuit design and digital networks while developing teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and communication skills.
Activities could include constructing communication towers, tackling signal relay challenges, aligning a satellite dish, building circuits and coding a simple communication system. Designed by STEM specialist Rob Bennett to complement the new Royal Marines Experience, the session offers an opportunity to discover how STEM knowledge and practical skills are used by military personnel and in a wide range of civilian careers.
The session is designed with home educators in mind, providing an engaging opportunity to learn, experiment and solve problems together. Younger siblings can also get involved with activities designed especially for them.
Tickets include access to the full Historic Dockyard site on this day, so you can continue your adventure before or after the session.
