Elena Lewendon

Member of the Royal Navy Museums Main Board

Elena Lewendon is Chief Operating Officer of the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust (FMHT), a UK charity advancing public understanding of maritime history across the Falklands, South Atlantic and surrounding seas. With a background in Classics, Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Theory, she has over 20 years’ experience in museums, conservation and heritage leadership.

At FMHT, Elena works across research, education and maritime heritage projects. The Trust’s work includes the landmark Endurance22 expedition, which located Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance, and ongoing research into historic shipwrecks. Elena is particularly interested in how deep water archaeology and emerging technologies, including advanced survey methods and digital twinning, can transform how underwater heritage is recorded and shared.

Elena was inspired to join Royal Navy Museums by its new strategic plan and the opportunity to support its ambitions to preserve and share the Royal Navy’s rich maritime heritage. She brings experience and connections across the subsea sector, alongside a particular interest in developing new audiences and using innovative digital technologies to bring the stories of naval history, exploration and service to life.
